New eyes

So yesterday I finally bit the bullet and got contacts. I don't know what possessed me to do it. I don't even like touching my eyes. So the fact that I have to touch my eyeball literally to put these lenses on and take them off, really bugs me out. It's like, I wonder who came up with this idea. Ok, I'm going to put a little lens in your eye, and you have to take your fingers to pinch it out. Gross. I also can't get over the feeling of there's something in my eye. It's very strange. It's going to take some time to get used to. I hope not too long however. I'm using the soft contact lens because I have a stigmatism in my eye. The lens are a lot softer and thinner than what I was expecting. It feels like I'm putting a piece of plastic in my eye. Very strange indeed.

It is a piece of plastic you are putting in your eye. I know this for a fact, because I used to make contact lenses. They all start out as a button of hard plastic. Different types of plastic makes hard or soft lenses. I personally prefer the RGP(rigid gas permeable). Better visual acquity(sic-don't want to look it up) for astigmatism and you don't have to clean them every day. I don't think I've cleaned mine for about a month. Found your post through your cats. They are adorable, mine are just able. Able to open doors etc...

It feels strange at first but the analogy is that when you first wear a watch you feel it on your wrist until your brain gets used to it. Same with contacts. When your brain gets used to them being there you don't feel them. The bad part about that is if you get an eye infection it takes longer to figure out you have one because your eyes become desensitized. Just be careful and keep em clean.

Our momma has worn contacts since she was 17 years old, and she really loves them. She just got multifocal contacts, which are for distance and reading, because she is old now (hee hee) and needs them for work. Hang in there, you will get used to them!

I had the same problem the first time I have put my lenses in. I thought I would never get used to it. But actually it has worked out very quickly until I didn't feel anything strange anymore. The only problem I have always had was dust in my eye. As we have lots of sand in Egypt I have no glasses again although I hate them.

I have worn contacts for 50 years, since I was a teenager, and the new hard ones had just come out. I can't imagine life without them, hated glasses. It never bothered me putting them in my eye. I have switched to the gas permeable ones now, the hard ones aren't that great for your eyes, and I think they are discontinuing use. Hang in there!!

Congrats on moving up to contacts! You will get used to putting them in and out. Just don't sleep in them, no matter what the box says!! I'm an ophthalmologist and I have see SO many problems after people have slept in their contacts!!

We are moving to NYC in a couple months and very happy about it. I wonder how Tanya and Chanel will do switching toilets a couple times....

I have worn contacts since I was 15, now I am 64, so you do the math. I have always loved them, but I wore the hard, and you didn't touch your eye, just pulled it to the side to pop them out. Putting them in never bothered me. Now I have the gas permeable ones, and they get a protein buildup, which I hate, but the hard ones aren't used anymore. I think you will adjust to them.

Lynettea used to have contacts in the old days, long ago. She says to me that you can have an operation done so that you don't have to wear contacts or glasses either for a lot of eye problems. It is expensive though. She wears glasses again, so she sometimes can't see me and bits of me get trod on.

I had the same feeling as you - couldn't stand anything near my face let alone touching my eye. I think it's been about 30 years ago when I first got them and back then they didn't make a soft contact for astigmatism so I had to wear hard. They were horrible so I insisted that if I could wear those old hard ones I could wear soft ones and made the Dr. give me soft. They were gas permeable and had to have holes drilled in them to get oxygen to my eyes - another problem. But they were so much better. Then I got soft and I love them. I really had to work on it because glasses hurt my ears and nose.

yeah, it's definitely weird. I have a new type now that is even thinner, so I think I'm basicallly scraping it off my eye. I know I am b/c when I cut my nails, it's a bitch to get them out!

Don't freak out if it's hard to get them either in or out at first. You'll get used to it.

I have thought about contacts for so, so long now meemsnyc. The glasses I have are about ten years out of date and I can see better without them. I think I wear them out of habit. Let me know how you get on as a newbie to the contact lens world...I might just follow suit. Eyes, bits of plastic/glass and fingers.....all very yucky!

This instinct is so hardwired into a man's genetics that it will drive him to try harder than before to do his best at looking after your relationship.

In fact, triggering this influential instinct is so essential to achieving the best possible relationship with your man that once you send your man one of these "Secret Signals"...
